The Fort William Rotary Club, along with Rotary District 5580 are pleased to announced $3,000 to two local organizations helping with COVID-19 relief efforts in our community. The Regional Food Distribution Association and Shelter House Thunder Bay are both receiving $1,500 each. Fort William Rotary President Stephen Margarit was on hand to present the cheques to both organizations.
The initiative was started by Rotary District 5580 who provided $1,000 USD in funding to Rotary Clubs to designate to local organizations. These disaster relief grants resulted in $63,000 USD being distributed to organizations across District 5580 which includes North Dakota, Norther Minnesota, Northwestern Wisconsin and Northwestern Ontario. Along with the funds from the Lakehead and Port Arthur Rotary Clubs, local organizations will be receiving $6,000 to support relief efforts.

Fort William Rotarians chose the two local organizations as they are both seeing an increase in the usage and need of their services. “Fort William Rotary has always been here to support the needs of our community during the last 103 years,” stated Club President Stephen Margarit. “Our club was more than happy to match the District’s grant to double the impact on these front-line organizations,” concluded Margarit. The funding for the match came from the proceeds of last year’s Fort William Rotary House Lottery.
